  4. This is the distribution for DVIWIN 2.0 which is a DVI driver for previewing
  5. and printing DVI files under MS-Windows 3.x. You can use the following steps
  6. to install the programs in your system:
  7.  
  8.   1. Copy "ctl3d.dll" to your windows system directory. If using Windows
  9.      3.0, you also need to copy "commdlg.dll" in the same place; otherwise,
  10.      you can discard that file.
  11.  
  12.   2. Copy "dviwin.exe", "dviwin.hlp", "clipmeta.exe", "wbr.exe", "wbr.hlp"
  13.      and "miscwin.dll" in any directory specified in your PATH environment
  14.      variable.
  15.  
  16.   3. Make new entries in one of your Program Manager groups for the three
  17.      programs (dviwin.exe, wbr.exe, clipmeta.exe).
  18.  
  19.   4. Read or print the documentation files "dviwin.wri", "wbr.wri" and
  20.      "clipmeta.wri" (in this order) using the Microsoft Write program.
  21.  
  22.   5. You will also need a collection of PK font files in various
  23.      resolutions; many such files can be found in the SIMTEL archives
  24.      (wsmr20.simtel.army.mil), any of its mirrors (wuarchive.wustl.edu,
  25.      oak.oakland.edu), or other anonymous FTP sites. In general, you
  26.      want to get resolutions for your screen (between 100 and 208 dpi)
  27.      as well as for you printer (you will need 300-622 dpi for laser
  28.      printers; that depends on the resolution). When you get these
  29.      files, arrange them as following:
  30.  
  31.      a. Make a "base" directory (eg., c:\tex\pkfonts)
  32.      b. Make a subdirectory under the base directory for each resolution.
  33.         The name of each subdirectory should simply be the resolution.
  34.         For example, you can make the subdirectories "c:\tex\pkfonts\300",
  35.         "c:\tex\pkfonts\329", "c:\tex\pkfonts\360" for the 300 dpi, 329
  36.         dpi and 360 dpi resolutions respectively.
  37.      c. Put your PK font files in the correct subdirectories according
  38.         to their resolution. Each filename should be the name of the
  39.         font ONLY. Be careful when downloading fonts from Unix: their
  40.         names contain also the resolution. If for example you find the
  41.         file "cmr10.300pk" under Unix, you should put it in the directory
  42.         "c:\tex\pkfonts\300" with the name "cmr10.pk".

  44.   6. The first time that you run "dviwin.exe", go to the "Font Directory"
  45.      entry in the "Options" submenu and specify the base directory for
  46.      your fonts. If this step is not done, you will see NOTHING.
  47.  
  48.   7. Using a resolution between 100 and 145 dpi, open and see the file
  49.      "demo.dvi". This was produced from the file "demo.tex" and it reads
  50.      the graphics file "demo.wmf". As you will see, it is very easy to
  51.      combine text and graphics using this driver. You can also print
  52.      the file by selecting the appropriate resolution for your printer
  53.      and issuing the "Print" command.
  54.
